Discover the delight of tapping maple trees and sugaring with young children in this online primer. Through the lens of working with young children, we will introduce the process of maple sugaring and help participants feel comfortable bringing this experience to their own programs and practice.

We will introduce basic winter tree identification, address the cultural and historical relevance of sugaring, share best practices and responsible harvesting, discover the science behind the sugaring process, and share tips and tricks for engaging children in the process.

Participants will demonstrate proficiency in the different aspects of the sugaring process and, in turn, receive an ERAFANS sugaring badge representing their understanding of the practice, along with a professional development certificate. If you want to introduce sugaring to your program or personal practice with intention and authenticity but are not sure where to start, then this primer is for you!

Your course presenter is Emily Woodmansee, Founding Director of Among the Ferns and Bluestone Nature School.
