Legislative Updates

Well, we've got our hands full with this topic! There is work to do to help make nature-based learning accessible to every child. There are many initiatives in the works nationwide. Read on for on-going updates!

MARYLAND
House Bill 376 bill was introduced in Maryland by Delegate Michele Guyton during the legislative session on January 19, 2022 to pass an Outdoor Preschool Licensing Pilot. Delegate Guyton, along with seven co-sponsors proudly support the bill! In preparation for the bill hearing, the Outdoor Preschool Licensing (OPL) Advisory Team garnered more than 60 letters of support from all over the state and from national organizations, which were submitted as 'evidence' for the bill hearing.
The hearing took place on Feb. 10, 2022 (here's the Zoom link if you'd like to watch it!). We are waiting for a vote, so stayed tuned... If it passes in the House of Delegates, it will move on to the Senate.

WASHINGTON
We applaud Washington state as the first to fully license outdoor preschools!
Washington State passed a bill to run a four-year pilot. They have since passed the bill! Here is the bill as enacted

COLORADO
One Colorado preschool also has a six-month pilot license for an entirely outdoor program. Learn more about The Nursery School and their work here.

Share your updates with us - we will gladly post them!
